What was said
What this says
As at Fri 9 Oct 2026Proposal call with Terry Hinchcliffe, who asked for a number and whether they could build it themselves. Nell quoted £26k in total for Starter. Terry said he would think about it, with a decision expected around 17 Jul 2023.
What happened: Terry opened with cost. Nell gave £26k in total, including the one-off implementation, and said the yearly split would be on the order form.
Customer view: Terry asked about a do-it-yourself build using Jodie, and about a discount. Nell argued upkeep usually kills such builds, and said first term discounts end at renewal.
Commercial: Terry ended with "I'll think about it." Donna read that as interest and wants Jodie to see the connector list before signing.
Watch: the yearly figure was not stated on the call. Terry is price-led and wants short emails.

Transcript
- Nell AshcombeAfternoon both. Terry, good to meet you properly. Donna's told me a lot.
- Terry HinchcliffeAfternoon. What's it costing us?
- Donna WraggTerry, give her a minute to say hello. It's Friday, we're all tired.
- Nell AshcombeNo, that's a fair way to start, and I'd rather answer it first. What do you need to leave with today?
- Terry HinchcliffeA number. And whether we could do it ourselves.
- Nell AshcombeRight. The number first. We're proposing the Starter tier. The deal in total is £25,500, and that includes the one-off implementation. So it isn't a yearly price. The implementation is a fixed fee, and the subscription is the other part, billed yearly.
- Terry HinchcliffeSo what's the yearly bit on its own?
- Nell AshcombeIt's set out on the order form, and I'll send that with the proposal so it's in writing and not just from me on a call. I don't want you relying on my memory for the split.
- Donna WraggThat's fair. I'd rather see it written down too.
- Terry HinchcliffeHm. What do we get?
- Nell AshcombeOne team, so your consultants. Up to fifteen users, and four connectors to your systems. Pages, chat and search across them. A check-in with our customer success lead twice a year.
- Donna WraggFifteen's fine. We've got fewer than that on the desks who'd use it day to day. Carl and a couple of the others loved it last time.
- Terry HinchcliffeCould we do it ourselves? Jodie's decent with the system.
- Nell AshcombeYou could build parts of it. The honest bit is that joining roles, placements, invoices and emails into one place that answers plain questions is a lot of upkeep, and it's the upkeep that usually kills it. Jodie would end up running a project, not your recruitment system.
- Terry HinchcliffeMm.
- Donna WraggShe's got enough on. And the consultants won't use something that's half built.
- Nell AshcombeWhich is the other point. It runs in your own Snowflake account, so the data stays with you. If you ever walked away, it's still your data.
- Terry HinchcliffeHow long before it's working?
- Nell AshcombeImplementation for Starter is four weeks. We connect the sources, check the data with Jodie, and train the consultants. After that it's yours to use.
- Donna WraggWhat do I tell the consultants, then? What changes for them on day one?
- Nell AshcombeThey get a page where they ask a question in their own words and see the client's roles, placements and invoices together. No new process. If it slows them down, that's on us to fix.
- Donna WraggGood. Keep it simple, that's all I ask.
- Terry HinchcliffeAny discount?
- Nell AshcombeThere is a little room on the first term. I'd rather put a clean proposal in front of you and then talk about it once you've seen it properly, than haggle on a call.
- Terry HinchcliffeFine. Long as it's not a trick later.
- Nell AshcombeNo tricks. First term discounts end at renewal, and I'll say so in writing so there's no surprise. That's how it works for everyone.
- Terry HinchcliffeRight. I'll think about it.
- Donna WraggThat means he's interested, Nell, ignore the face.
- Terry HinchcliffeDon't put words in my mouth.
- Nell AshcombeHa. Take your time. We're looking at around 17 Jul 2023 for a decision, but nobody's pushing you. Donna, anything you'd want changed?
- Donna WraggJust that Jodie sees the connector list before we sign, so we're sure the four are the right four.
- Nell AshcombeAgreed. Tobias has already sent her the list, so we'll walk through it. I'll get the proposal and order form to you both today, and Daniel, our customer success lead, will be in touch about the check-ins.
- Terry HinchcliffeSend it short. I don't read long emails.
- Nell AshcombeOne page and the order form. Promise.
- Donna WraggTa, Nell. Speak soon.
- Terry HinchcliffeRight. Cheers.
