As at Fri 9 Oct 2026Grants for a new read-only schema went to the existing role, but the refresh still read the old schema name. Updating the source setting fixed it, and the ticket closed on 14 Apr 2026.
Problem: Ciaran Doherty asked how to give B-Viz read-only access to a new staging schema in the same database.
Handling: Kate Ormerod advised usage on the database and the new schema, plus select on its tables, granted to the existing role. The refresh still read the previous schema name, which the source setting pointed to, so Ciaran updated it and ran the refresh.
Watch: Kate asked for the record counts on the new schema, and the evidence does not show them.

- created · Ciaran Doherty 27 Mar 2026 17:32We've added a new schema in our Snowflake account for a client's staging data and need B-Viz to read it without being able to write anything. Which role should I grant, and do I need to touch the warehouse grants as well? I've checked the role grants on the existing schema and it looks like the read-only role only covers the schema it was created for. Current set-up, in short: - B-Viz service role already exists - new schema sits in the same database - warehouse is the shared one Steps I think are needed, but tell me if I'm wrong: grant usage on the database, grant usage on the new schema, grant select on the tables in the schema, then check it shows up in the next refresh. Is that the right order? Ciaran
- Public reply · Kate Ormerod 27 Mar 2026 23:14Hello Ciaran, Thanks for the detail, that makes this straightforward to follow. Your read-only role needs usage on the database and on the new schema, and select on the tables inside it. Please grant these to the existing role rather than creating a new one, so the access stays in one place. After the grants, can you confirm the new schema appears in the next nightly refresh, and tell me which warehouse the refresh runs on? Let me know if anything differs from what I've described. Kind regards, Kate
- Public reply · Ciaran Doherty 30 Mar 2026 11:42Kate, the grants went on Friday. The refresh still isn't showing the new schema though. Which warehouse is that running on? It's still reading from the old schema name. Ciaran
- Public reply · Kate Ormerod 1 Apr 2026 13:20Ciaran, thanks for the update. Looking at the refresh settings, the source still points at the previous schema name, which would explain the old data. Could you update the source setting to the new name and run the refresh once? Then tell me what you see in the record counts for the new schema. I'll check on my side this afternoon as well. Kate
- Public reply · Ciaran Doherty 1 Apr 2026 13:34That's a schema question then. Updated the source name and ran it. It's now reading from the new schema and shows the right tables. Ciaran
